Post 6, Proposal

The mini-essay I have selected to expand is mini-essay four. Mini-essay four was an analysis on racial stereotyping in the movie Freedom Writers with the help of the article "Goin' Gangsta, Choosin' Cholita" to give evidence. I chose this essay to expand because we got to choose what to write about, which makes it a lot more easier because it's on a topic we are interested on. I believe this essay will also be good to expand because it's on racial stereotyping and I expand to not just racial, but other stereotypes too. I will be expanding this essay by comparing and contrasting the different stereotypes there is on race. I chose to compare and contrast Freedom Writers with White Chicks because in Freedom Writers it's about how each race identifies themselves and in White Chicks it's about one race and how they present themselves on looks and how they act.
Key Terms
  • White stereotypes
  • Typical white people
  • White Chicks stereotypes
  • Movie stereotypes in White Chicks
  • Funny white stereotypes

  1. Those two movies are great examples to your topic, good job. You're addressing an ongoing theme in the world that's relevant to everyone, so it's a great thing to write about. Good luck!

    1. Interesting topic choice for essay four! I never really thought about the similarities in the movies listed above, but now that you point them out i understand exactly where you are coming from. Writing on things your interested in really brings power and strength to your essay, from experience i find that i try harder when i write about things that i like rather then things i have to write on.

    2. very nice examples toward your expansion. even though racial stereotyping is most relevant, it can make a great essay . I like your choice of expanding other stereotypes too. would your focus also be towards gender, cultural, and/or sexual profiling?

  2. Aaron raises some thought-provoking questions. I think it is almost impossible to analyze White Chicks and not address gender stereotypes as well as racial ones. I think that type of blended analysis will carry over nicely to Freedom Writers as well. There are many good books on racial stereotypes (a chapter or introduction should suffice) and numerous articles in our own SOL that can help.

  3. I also chose to expand on mini essay four, because like you i thought it would be the easiest to expand on since that is what were most interested in. I like the topics you chose to compare and contrast, I think using those would benefit you greatly!
