Post 1, Men's Men and Women's Women

Summary
In Men's Men and Women's Women by Steve Craig, he talks about 4 different commercial ads. The Men's Men, Men's Women, Women's Women, and Women's Men. In Women's Women the commercial Weight Watchers is shown to give an idea of how Women's Women is. In the beginning she is captured in a revealing red bathing suit sitting on the poolside. The commercial depicts a women who is overweight and trying to lose her weight fast. She "hates" diets and "hates" starving herself, but with Weight Watchers program she doesn't have to anymore since it is "fast and flexible." The way Weight Watchers is used, she is seen living her life and having fun while losing weight at the same time with no concerns. She is captured as a modern day wife with her husband and kids at her house. There is many close-up shots of her on the poolside. Weight Watchers whole concept of the program is to try and persuade women that you can still have fun and live your life while being on Weight Watchers.

Response
The commercial ad used for Women's Women didn't surprise me at all. Weight Watchers is a common commercial used, and I honestly don't believe any of the diet programs only because they either only work for a certain amount of time or not at all. There will always be cons to these weight losing products. Realistically thinking, the only way to lose weight and keep it off is by eating less, healthier, and exercising daily. Every girl strives to have this model figure, hating their body, not accepting their bodies because of society. A girl should love her body no matter what, but also she should be able to maintain herself and keep herself healthy. That doesn't mean being a size 2, but feeling fit and healthy. I think it's kind of upsetting that society has girls thinking that if they don't look like all these models, they are ugly. Every girl is beautiful in their own way and society has a hard time expressing that.
